The archaeological site of Segesta stands in a panoramic position on the green hills of inland Sicily. Besides it is surrounded by forests and vineyards, and it is located not far from the Gulf of Castellammare.
The temple was built between 430 and 420 b.C., and it welcomes those who enter the archaeological area.
You can also admire it just behind the ticket office, in an elevated position.
You can reach it on foot, walking up on a flight of steps carved into the rock. While you walk towards the temple, you will be surrounded by agaves and olive trees.
There is nothing more poetic than walking up this short path and catch a glimpse of the temple at the top of the hill.
Once at the top, the view repays the slight fatigue of the walk. The monument is imposing, framed by nature, and it is possible to walk around it or even enter its sacred heart.
On the hill in front of the temple there is the acropolis, separated by a canyon. It can be reached on foot or by a bus provided for tourists.
Equally important, the acropolis was characterized by a central square and a series of public buildings revolving around it. It dates back to the 2nd century b.C.
Continuing on foot, a path on the hill leads you to the theater, built between the 4th and 3rd centuries b.C.
The theatre in a panoramic position as well, facing the valley and the Gulf of Castellammare.
